Academic Angler Speaks to Lipscomb Park Association

Lipscomb Street Park Association Continues to Improve Community
Melbourne Florida — March 21, 2010 — Dr. Charlie Roberts, the president of the Academic Anglers Fishing Team, was the keynote speaker for the 33rd Annual Appreciation Banquet of the Lipscomb Street Regional Park Association.
In his message, Dr. Roberts urged the association to continue their efforts in making a difference in the lives of the children of the Lipscomb Community. He noted their accomplishments in the renovation of the community center, the new ball fields with lights, the basketball court with lights, the pavilion between the lakes and the ball fields, the fitness trail, the new playground equipment, the new landscaping and many more improvements. He not only commended them for their accomplishments but suggested that they not only continue MAKING A DIFFERENCE but to CREATE MEMORIES.
He suggested that sports and activity teams have a culminating trip at the end of their competitive season and include an educational component with it. Dr. Roberts explained the Academic Anglers Children’s Fishing Clinic and its educational components and how the environment plays an integral of competitive and recreational fishing.
The Lipscomb Street park Association also present the Eleanor Delifus Education Award to Mary Rachel Eloho Ohwovoriole of Bayside High School, the James Megriff Sports Award to Charna Davis of Palm Bay High School, the Ed Cochran Sr., Community Service Award to Marva Murray, an Iraq veteran and community activist, and the Presidential Award to Helen Jackson of Palm Bay Florida.
The Academic Anglers are a professional fishing team whose primary goals are to encourage African Americans to participate in competitive fishing and to educate children about fishing as recreation and a sport.
