Mathew Gonzales of Bronx, New York caught his first ever fish while fishing with relatives on the Indian River Saturday, August 20th. The fish was an eleven-pound redfish and it was caught on an eight-pound test line.
Jeff Brown of Orlando and Charlie Roberts of Melbourne were fishing in the FLW Redfish Series Tournament when they noticed that Mathew had hooked up with a pretty big fish. After a long battle, Mathew landed the fish and was really excited to have caught the first fish in his young life. It was then that his uncle said, “We don’t have a camera”. Jeff and I readily agreed to suspend our fishing and take a picture of this once in a life moment. Mathew now has a photo of the first fish that he caught.
After the photo session Jeff and I continued fishing in the tournament. We had a successful day Saturday but we could not overcome poor day we had Friday. As a result, we finished 84th in a field of 137.
